On April 23rd torrential rain in Venezuela led to devastating floods and landslides, claiming the lives of 6 people. Three people were also reported as missing in the North West. Lake Maracaibo in Zulia, Cojedes, Merida, Tachira and Trujillo were the worst affected regions. Reports claim that the rainfall amount was higher then the previous years.
The response has been intense; the government, along with the authorities, armed forces and volunteers came together to prevent severe damage and minimise disruption. Debris was removed using equipments and a temporary bridge was built to connect the states of Merida and Trujillo.
