29,000 people have been displaced in Colombia in April, when floods occurred due to heavy rainfall. Since January, floods and landslides have killed over 85 people in the country and made thousands homeless. The government has been providing aid to those affected and the Colombian president has promised an additional $8.4 million.
La Nina has been responsible for the torrential rain and forecasts claim that this will continue until June. The damage has been extensive, properties, homes, infrastructure and crops have been destroyed of damaged and losses have been estimated in billions of dollars.
The capital Bogotá has also been affected along with almost three-quarter of country.
In 2010, 300 people were killed and more than 2.8 million were affected during the rainy seasons which also triggered landslides and floods.
