New Zealand Tornado Kills 1

A tornado struck Auckland on Wednesday 4th May killing one person and injuring 20 others. The suburb of Albany in Auckland was affected by the tornado which had wind speeds exceeding 125 miles an hour (200 km an hour) and travelled at least 5 km.

According to officials the victim was a 37 year old construction worker from Philippines.
Although the damage faced was not as worse as expected for the scale of the tornado; trees were uprooted, cars flipped and a popular shopping centre faced major structural damage. The clean up operation has commenced with powers being restored as well as debris cleared away. The cost of the damage is estimated to be in the millions.
