Here is a list of a few natural hazards app for
android users. Some are more reliable and accurate in comparison to others and
some are more user friendly. There is an app to meet a variety of users.
My personal favourite are Disaster Alert-(by Pacific
Disaster Center)
and Geohazard-(by Natural Hazards-GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences).
I use these two everyday to keep updated with multi-hazards occurring around
the world. They are updated several times a day or as soon as an event occurs
so you will always be alerted when an event occurs. They also use reliable
sources such as reliefweb or official government organisation, so you can trust
the updates and information. You also have a choice of a list or a map of the
alerts/events.
There are a few apps such as FEMA, the American
Red Cross apps and a few of the tsunami apps which give advice on how to
prepare for the hazards. This is extremely useful, especially for those who
live in regions around the world affected by the particular hazard. The American
Red Cross apps are particularly good, they talk you through stages of
preparation, response and recovery, give you updated news of severe events and where
to find shelters around you (only for America).
Although this app is for America
the advice given is generic and can be applied wherever you are in the world.
Test them out and let me know which ones you
prefer and find useful and why!
