'Brazil: Centro Nacional de Monitoramento e Alertas de Desastres Naturais (Cemaden), Brazil, plans to standardise geological maps of the country. The organisation aims to integrate the basic geological, hydrological and meteorological data of 1,400 municipalities.
Geologist from the Aluísio Graminha center said that the integrated data base will help the government in formulating their strategies. The government will be able to utilise this data in monitoring and mitigating natural disasters.
George Pimentel, executive coordinator of the national mapping Geological Survey of Brazil (CPRM), said that the organisation aims to survey risk areas in 821 municipalities by 2014. More than 200 cities will be mapped this year'.
