Tanzania Floods death toll rises

According to reliefweb 20,000 people are estimated to have been affected and 465 families have been displaced during recent floods in Dar es Salaam. Residents have been displaced in different parts of the city including; Ubungo, Tabata, Magomeni, Msasani, and Kinondoni. Ilala, Temeke, and Kinondoni districts in the city have all been affected of which Kinondoni is the worst affected.

According to estimates, 669 families have been left with no access to food or infrastructure. Schools, crops, bridges, roads and homes have also been damaged and destroyed. Major bridges including Ruvu Bridge along the Morogoro-Dar Es Salaam Highway, Mpinga Bridge along the Dar Es Salaam Bagamoyo Road as well as Mzinga Bridge connecting Dar es Salaam to the southern regions of Lindi and Mtwara and some parts of Coast regions have all been damaged or destroyed.

The floods claimed 10 lives in the past few days and it is now feared that the death toll is as high as 41. Of the 41, 25 deaths have been confirmed so far of which 11 were in Kinondoni and 7 in Temeke.
