An earthquake measuring a magnitude 4.8 struck 26 km (16.3 miles) east south east of Cyangugu in Rwanda and 30.6 km (19 miles) north of Cibitoke in Burundi on 23 September. The earthquake had a depth of 10 km.
According to news reports 6 people have died and numerous have been injured as a result of the earthquake. Damage has also been caused to homes, schools, churches and vehicles.
On 22 September a Magnitude 5.6 earthquake also struck 163 km (101.9 miles) south south east of Chipinge, Zimbabwe. The earthquake had a depth of 10 km. No fatalities or damage was reported from the earthquake.
