Ongoing floods caused by heavy rainfall have devastated
parts of the country leaving over 100 dead. According to reliefweb over 30
fatalities occurred in the Pithoragarh
and Chamoli Districts in July. 76 fatalities and 202 injuries also occurred in Arunachal
Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan on July 19.
13,490 people were evacuated after 19,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed
by the floods in these States.
According to OCHA, further floods on July 23 in the
Assam Sate affected 291,000 people,
leaving 12,400 across 27 relief shelters. Reports also claimed that 1.7 million
people were affected by these floods across the 19 districts in Assam. Dhemaji,
Barpeta, Jorhat, Golaghat, Lakhimpur and Dhubri were the worst affected
districts.
A further 119 fatalities have occurred in the Bihar State on 22 August.
150,000 people are currently living in 162 relief shelters in the State.
The floods have caused devastation and the situation is currently ongoing.
