An earthquake measuring
6.8 with a depth of 84.1 km struck 25 km west of Chauk in Myanmar on 24 August
at 10:34 am. The earthquake was powerful enough to be felt in Bangkok located
1000 km (620 miles) away, Kolkata located in India and Bangladesh.
According to reports, 20
people were injured in Bangladesh due to panic while evacuating a building.
Buildings also shock in Kolkata. 4 fatalities have been confirmed in Myanmar.
According to earthquake-report, 2 deaths occurred in Yenangyaung and 2 in Pakokku.
Fortunately there was no
severe or widespread damage. Over 200 temples and pagodas were damaged in the
city of Bagan and a few other buildings also encountered minor damage.
