A final damage and needs assessment report has been released for the magnitude 5.9 earthquake in Tanzania which occurred on 10 September 2016.
The earthquake caused 17 fatalities and 440 injuries. 252 of those injured required hospitalisation. 12 remain in hospital.
117,721 people have been left homeless. 6.4% of the population has been affected in the districts of Kagera. The worst affected districts include; Bukoba Municipal, Bukoba Rural and Missenyi.
2500 homes have been destroyed, 14500 have been partially destroyed, 9000 houses have minor cracks. More than 1700 buildings at Government Institutions have also been damaged.
Repairs to damaged infrastructure such as roads, bridges, communication lines and electricity are underway.
