A magnitude 6.6 earthquake occurred in Italy on 30 October at 6:40 UTC. The epicentre was located 6 km (3.7 miles) north of Norcia and 5.1 km (3.1 miles) south east of Preci in Central Italy. The depth(focus) of the earthquake was 10 km (6.2 miles).
Several smaller aftershocks varying in size from magnitude 4.0 to 4.7 have followed.
Although few injuries have been reported, fortunately no fatalities occurred. Damage has been reported. Many historical buildings which were vulnerable to earthquakes have been damaged or destroyed.
